I play piano, guitar, marching drums, drumset, and trumpet and I can read sheet music to all of them but I’m not sure if that makes me as good as I can be…

No, it doesn’t mean you’re not musically “knowledgable”(sic). It just mean you really haven’t heard this music enough. They never really stray from any key center, though there are some upper harmonic extensions that a lot of people find strange–until they listen to enough of it to become “knowledgeable”.
