    Long live Art Blakely and his amazing jazz messengers,this is now and always will be my favorite.missing this band and the members of this band always.LONG LIVE ART BLAKEY,LEE MORGAN,BOBBY TIMMONS. They are so badly missed.I did love seeing them playing this great music in BIRDLAND in the 50’s and early 60’s.This was the best music

    I recognized Walter …
    I recognized Walter Davis, right away. He later worked in Dizzy’s touring band in the 80s. Anyway, this is a great clip. Wayne might be -backwards on the clave, but there’s no rules in this stuff, it’s just music in its purest form.
    Somebody mentioned there’s a ska version of this? I’d like to hear it. For the open minded folks, there’s also a ’surf music’ version by Laika and the Cosmonauts.

    yes, but clave is clave. If you’re going to play a “latin tune” and apply clave to it, everyone knows that that you should follow the norm as far as clave goes and everyone knows that Tunisia is 2-3 clave (and no, I’m not a salsa freak) Shorter just didn’t know and Blakey didn’t correct him, even though he was playing 2-3 “cascara” pattern on the cymbals.
