Bob Wills was the driving force behind Western Swing, a form of country & western that was broader in scope than the parent genre. A master at synthesizing styles, Wills brought jazz, hillbilly, boogie, blues, big-band swing, rhumba, mariachi, jitterbug music and more under his ecumenical umbrella. He has been called “the King of Western Swing” and “the first great amalgamator of American music.” Wills grew up in a part of Texas where diverse cultures and forms of music overlapped. His enthusiasm and mastery were such that he imilated disperate genres into what might best be termed American music. (Wills called it “Texas fiddle music.”)

At least “Faded Love” had a few bars of it played at the beginning of this video. I love the music and the lyrics of “Faded Love” - next to “San Antonio Rose” by Bob and the band it’s my favorite. For me, this song is one that sounds good no matter who sings it - just like “San Antonio Rose”. Music like this is everlasting and when there’s a pedal steel guitar added to the fiddles it can’t beat. This little bio with testimonies by Bob Wills’ fans is really special

My uncle played with Bob in the 50s. I also played with Casey Clark and the Lazy Ranch Boys. He and Johnny Gimble played with Bob in the early days. We did his whole catalog. I’ve been in a lot of bands, but that was my favorite. I could play that stuff all night.

I loved Bob and the boys. I cut my teeth on Western Swing. I still play it with my band today. Asleep At the Wheel, George Strait, Rich McCready, are just a few that owe the sound they have to Bob Wills. Even Ole Merle has a touch of Bob. Love it, Bring it on Bob.

Dear Podrocket,
There is no such thing as country western. Music is either country or western. These are two different types of music completely. I grew up in Sweetwater Texas and Fort Towson Oklahoma, think I know a thing or two about these types of music!
