We have an average everyday band (in their 50's) playing our wedding reception. Their playlist is a little outdated and we love swing-type music like Zoot Suit Riot and Mack the Knife. Do you think a regular band will be able to accomdate that or is that difficult? Thanks!

Yes, swing music is difficult to perform if the band is unfamiliar with it. I'd recommend finding a small ensamble swing band (or neo-swing band) that specifically plays swing and rock n' roll music. You could also looking into hiring a big band, but they will probably not be familiar with neo-swing music, prefering to play classic big band songs and standards.

If you've already booked the band, talk to them about what songs you would like in their set, and what they know how to play. If you specifically want "zoot suit riot" played at your wedding and they don't know it and can't learn it in time, just have a DJ play the song during one of the band's breaks. Most bands play for 45 minutes and take 15 minutes off, so this would be the best time to play the songs you want to hear that the band can't play.
